Eagles QB Carson Wentz Gave His Offensive Line Shotguns For Christmas

For 16 weeks during an NFL season, the guys on the offensive line for any given team are tasked with protecting their most valuable player – the quarterback.

So Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz decided he wanted to give his lineman a gift that could help protect themselves – a personalized Beretta shotgun.

Naturally, the gift hasn’t gone unnoticed by anti-gun zealots who find it inappropriate. Hell, they typically view Second Amendment protections themselves as inappropriate so there’s no pleasing them.

Wentz doesn’t seem too concerned with how others would take his Christmas gifts …

Via the Blaze:

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz went big this Christmas, buying each of his offensive linemen a personalized Beretta shotgun. Each player’s number is engraved on the butt of the gun.

“This is an awesome gun. I’m excited about it,” said offensive lineman Allen Barbre, who is also a hunter. “I don’t know if I’ll shoot it, though. It’s pretty nice.”

Barbre told reporters the model is a Beretta Silver Pigeon, which usually retails for $2,000.

Eagles offensive lineman Brandon Brooks told ESPN, “I like to go clay shooting and stuff. All I’ve got is a home defense tactical shotgun, short-barrel, so I was looking for one of these.”

Some people were less than pleased however …

Would I give everyone in my office a shotgun? Hell to the no, and I am a multiple gun owner. Carson Wentz dumb move! @cj_wentz @espn

Executive director of CeasefirePA Shira Goodman said that the guns were “certainly an interesting and unusual gift” suggesting that the players get locks for their new firearms.

Actually, she did more than make a suggestion – CeasefirePA sent the players gun locks. Because the fairly wealthy NFL players couldn’t go out and buy their own, or something.
